Many solar consumers see a high generation number in their vendor's mobile app, but a smaller "export" number on their net meter and electricity bill. This is not an error. This page explains exactly where those units go — step by step.

🔑 Key point: The inverter (and your vendor's app) measures the total solar generated. But your appliances silently use a big part of it directly. When the sun is down, your panels produce nothing. Your home now draws power back from the grid. The net meter records this as Import.

Your vendor's mobile app reads the inverter and shows the full generation. The APEPDCL net meter reads only what crosses in and out to the grid. They are measuring two different things.

No — those are the most valuable units of all. The 8 units your home used directly were free solar power. You did not buy them from APEPDCL, so they never appear on the meter or the bill. Because the net meter is fixed at the boundary between your home and the grid, not at the inverter. Only power that actually leaves your premises (Export) or enters it (Import) passes through it. Neither. Both are correct — they simply measure at different points. App = total generation (inverter). Net meter = grid export & import. In simple terms, APEPDCL nets your Import minus Export for the billing period. If you export more than you import, the surplus is carried forward as credit as per the prevailing net-metering policy. Run heavy appliances (pump, washing machine, iron, AC) during daytime when the sun is out.
